BMMGA Board Meeting

Minutes of the meeting held August 28, 2013.

The meeting was called to order by the President, Urs Gsteiger.

Present were board members Mike Harrell, Paul Bagnasco, Alan Brister, Steve Smith, and Bob Hurt. Also present were Harold Kaplan and John Carrin.

Reports were then presented as follows:

The Secretary, Ed Levine, indicated that the minutes of the last meeting were posted in the minute book and in the clubhouse. Additionally, the minutes were circulated by e-mail to board members. A motion was made to approve the minutes which minutes were approved.

The Treasurer, Alan Brister, indicated that we had a balance which was $1,000.00 more than expected primarily due to men’s day rain outs. A motion was made and approved to subsidize with $10.00 each member’s banquet charge out of these excess funds.

Membership/Handicap discussions centered on the recruitment of more players.

Mike Harrell, the Social Chairman, indicated that the luncheons have gone very well with good attendance and excellent food. The annual banquet was discussed and all is ready.

The Interclub/Games Chairman, Bob Hurt, reviewed the season which has been diminished by two rain outs. It was decided to continue the “captain system” which worked very well this season.

Steve Smith, Special Events Chairman, led a discussion about the “Folds of Honor” program and the “Arnie’s Army” program and the need for volunteers. Steve further emphasized the need to get a committee together to assist the club and enhance the Member-Guest Tournament.

Old Business: There was no old business to discuss.

New Business: The Board agreed that our slow play initiative has been doing fine and discussed the need to keep emphasizing pace of play within our foursomes.

A discussion of The Golf Ball event was had. The Board generally felt that it needed to support itself and that there would be no further subsidy from the BMMGA.

A discussion was held regarding the need for new board members to replace those whose terms have been completed. Invitations will be given to Dan Andriso and Tom Higgins.

Changing the BMMGA Championship to two days was placed on the agenda. It was decided to leave the championship as a one day event.

A brief discussion was held on Men’s Day pairings. Random draws are used and favored by The Board.
